Stuxnet Worm Continues Hampering Iran’s Nuclear Ambitions
The worm continues doing what years of diplomacy, foreign policy, and even threats of military actions have not - it’s hampered Iran’s nuclear ambitions by attacking the very systems critical to Iran’s enrichment and nuclear power generation programs.
The worm, the origins of which remain a mystery, targets specific computer systems designed by Siemens that control speeds - and they’re known to be used on Iran’s centrifuges and turbine at Bushehr.
By abruptly switching speeds on centrifuges, the worm can damage or destroy the centrifuges, or render them incapable of extracting and enriching uranium.
Since no one has claimed responsibility for creating the worm, governments around the world have issued warnings about potential vulnerabilities to the worm in their own infrastructure.
